Join with others to keep your mind sharp with a weekly discussion group. Led by Ellen Somers, MA, LMHC, Asst. Director of Syracuse Jewish Family Service, with the assistance of SJFS interns, this group encourages you to use your reading, writing, and language skills to promote brain health. Each week we read through a packet of material and discuss the information presented. Then we challenge our memories by reviewing the same information a week later and “filling in the blanks”. Topics are wide ranging, including history, biography, science, geography, and world events (yes, we sometimes even wade into politics!) Examples of recent topics include climate change, the positive and negative side of envy, The Great Depression, Andrew Johnson, and the science of snow. Spend an hour or so every Thursday morning—learning about yourself, your neighbors, and our wider world.
