When our skilled nurses established the Chai Unit in 1990, it was the beginning of our commitment to memory care in Syracuse, NY with specialized care focusing on our residents with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Our memory care facility, The Terrace, was dedicated in 2002.
About Our Memory Care Facilities
As part of the Jewish Health & Rehabilitation Center, The Terrace provides the same comprehensive nursing home care and services in a safe and secure environment, with the addition of specialized memory care enhancements by trained professionals.
Our professional memory care team has received the Positive Approach™ to Care (PAC) certification by Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, which follows the GEMS™ model of brain and brain change ability recognition. This certification allows for the best care for our memory care residents as well as providing our team the support they need to care for all those in their charge.
Why The Terrace at Menorah Park for Memory Care?
Our dedicated and PAC-certified staff – many of whom have years of service here on our campus – have created programs that not only help our memory care residents maintain their memories but engage them in healthy and creative activities meant to respect their personal histories.
As a true continuum of care community, many of our residents lived in our independent and assisted living communities – The Oaks and The Inn-before calling The Terrace their home.
We were recently awarded the “” by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. We are currently the only facility in upstate New York to receive this honor.
Comprehensive Memory Care Programming at Menorah Park
While The Terrace specifically provides a safe and secure home for our residents with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other dementia related diseases, Menorah Park offers programs for our residents and the community.
In partnership with Syracuse Jewish Family Service, we offer Mind Aerobics™, which focuses on:
- Reaction Time/Processing Speed
- Problem Solving/Executive Function
- Visual Spatial Relations
- Attention and Concentration
Mind Aerobics™ was developed by the New England Cognitive Center, a non-profit that develops and disseminates research-based cognitive fitness programs.
Syracuse Jewish Family Service also offers M-Power U for our seniors, a social program to promote well-being and independence for people who are experiencing mild memory loss, mild cognitive impairment, or early stage dementia (no diagnosis required). We recently added a new section which focuses on individuals with Parkinson’s.
