FAQs Regarding Positive COVID-19 Case

As of yesterday morning, April 29, Menorah Park has confirmed that we have a single nursing home resident who has tested positive for COVID-19 (Coronavirus). The resident was transferred to a local hospital.

Where did this resident test positive?
The resident who tested positive lives on the first floor of the Jewish Home.

What steps are being taken to ensure the case is isolated from other residents?

  • Restricted first floor
The first floor has been secured so that only the clinical staff who work on that floor are permitted entrance, along with other essential staff members. All meals will be distributed by the first-floor clinical staff.
  • Increased, ongoing disinfectant and cleaning
  • Increased surveillance of residents on the first floor
There is an increase in clinical surveillance of residents on the first floor for signs and symptoms including twice-daily temperatures.
  • Increased preventative measures for staff safety
In addition to first-floor staff being limited to their assigned floor, there is a dedicated breakroom for staff to limit leaving the unit. This will help prevent any potential exposure to staff who work in other locations throughout the facility. The staff has been provided additional personal protective equipment including non-disposable face shields

Throughout our facility, we continue our infection control practices to lessen the risk of exposure or transfer of COVID-19 including no visitors, daily temps of staff before the start of a shift, social distancing, and limited, small group activities. We have installed additional hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility.

Under the guidance of our medical staff and infection prevention nurse, in conjunction with the Onondaga County Health Department and the New York State Department of Health, we are regularly adjusting policies and procedures when necessary and/or required.

Are there any other COVID_19 cases on the campus?
At this time there are no other confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the Menorah Park campus. We will continue to update this page as needed.

Willyou be testing all residents and staff?
We will continue testing any residents who exhibit signs and symptoms.

We cannot mandate that staff be tested but they are required to have their temperatures taken prior to the start of their shift. If they are exhibiting any signs and symptoms of the virus, they will not be permitted to enter the facility.

We are providing ongoing staff education related to COVID-19 including signs and symptoms associated with the virus. We continue in-services related to infection control measures such as cough etiquette, handwashing, contact precautions, and proper use of PPE.

Additionally, we have been proactively encouraging our staff to access free testing at Walmart’s Bridge Street location.

How do I receive updates regarding my loved one’s updates?
Menorah Park’s clinical staff will continue to notify families of any changes in the status of their loved ones. For non-clinical updates, families are encouraged to continue to work with their Syracuse Jewish Family Service contact to connect with loved ones via phone and video calls.
